What is Terrazzo?

Terrazzo is a composite material poured in place or precast which is used for floor and wall treatments. It consists of chips of marble, quartz, granite , glass or other suitable materials, poured with a cementitious binder, polymeric, or a combination of both. Metal strips divide sections, or changes in colour or material in a pattern. Additional chips may be sprinkled atop the mix before it sets. After it is cured it is ground and polished smooth or otherwise finished to produce a uniformly textured surface.

Terrazzo is the perfect solution for a wide variety of flooring requirements and our experience will ensure a superb surface for any flooring project. It is extremely durable and presents an ideal option for heavy use.

The material is available for, a wide range of standard colours or we can create a unique composition to your specification using traditional hand casting methods. Terrazzo is bespoke and can be designed to virtually match any desire design. Terrazzo is best suited for internal and external flooring, cladding, kitchen and vanity tops and bespoke uses.

Benefits of Terrazzo

Why should you choose Terrazzo? There are numerous advantages for terrazzo installation including: design flexibility, beautiful aesthetics, environmental friendliness, sanitation benefits, durability in high-traffic and high-stress settings, and low maintenance and life-cycle costs.

Terrazzo brings design flexibility not available in other flooring systems.Terrazzo offers an unlimited color range coupled with a plethora of aggregate options from mother of pearl, to marble, to recycled glass; these are among the many advantages offered by terrazzo.

Whether you’re looking for a modern monochromatic look, or an artistic piece reminiscent of classic Italian mosaics, or detailed artistic work with a photographic quality, terrazzo is your canvas.
Environmentally Friendly

In terms of green technology, there are no surfaces that compare with terrazzo. Possessing a compressive strength of nearly 500 pounds per square inch, some of the earliest terrazzo-like floors created almost 10,000 years ago still exist in the middle east today.

Ancient terrazzo is remarkably analogous to modern cementitious terrazzo, almost to the point of indistinguishability. The fact that these floors are still serviceable and beautiful after many centuries is clear confirmation of the superior sustainability of terrazzo.

With modern technology and the advent of epoxy terrazzo, modern terrazzo floors are even more sustainable and durable than cement terrazzo floors. Epoxy terrazzo also provides the option to incorporate post-consumer and pre-consumer recycled content such as glass and stone into the materials of these timeless terrazzo floors.

Terrazzo surfaces are non-porous and don’t support microbial growth and does not allow accumulation of moisture, absorbing water at a rate 1/10th that of cementitious terrazzo which results in an abnormally high stain resistance of the overall system. Additionally, this lack of water absorption and porosity results in a surface requiring only minimal cleaning processes, without the need for use of harsh cleaning chemicals.

Low maintenance

Given the non-porous nature of epoxy terrazzo, only minimal cleaning is required. Unlike carpet, vinyl flooring or tile, a terrazzo floor will almost certainly never need replacement, even when located in high-traffic areas.

There are no grout joints to allow for dirt accumulation. The low maintenance requirements, non-porous nature of the surface and crack-resistance creates a near-permanent solution that pays for itself over time.

Defining Exterior Wall Cladding and Facades
Cladding is the application of one material over another to provide a skin or layer. In construction, cladding is used to provide a degree of thermal insulation and weather resistance, and to improve the appearance of buildings.

Advantages of Cladding
 Low Maintenance

The basic purpose of external cladding is protection. It increases the mechanical strength of a structure, improves its resistance to cracking during increased temperature change, reduces water absorption, increases resistance to sunlight, and provides resistance to air and chemical pollution. Cladding also offers protection against the rain, strong winds and molds.

Aesthetic Value

Building cladding transforms the look of an otherwise drab structure, making it aesthetically appealing and increasing its market value.
Exterior cladding on the other hand refers to the use of panels that protect and insulate a building’s wall. Adding cladding to your property boosts its durability and resistance to the elements.  cladding materials can help take on some of the damage. Built to interact with harsh weather conditions, our clads will protect your home or business from water, wind, UV-ray and pollution damage. Even better, thanks to their superior technology, their color and finish will persist as beautifully as the day it was installed.
